GenderInSITE

What is GenderInSITE?

Gender in Science, Innovation, Technology and Engineering (GenderInSITE) is an international campaign to raise the awareness of decision-makers on the gender and SITE dimensions of development, aimed at both men and women. The OWSD SA National Chapter is the southern African focal point for GenderInSITE, tasked with implementing the campaign in the region. 

Objectives:

  • Raising the awareness of policy- and decision-makers in science institutions, academies and other decision-making bodies about the gender dimensions of SITE for sustainable development;
  • Demonstrating in key issues and sectors how gender analysis of SITE can improve development;
  • Highlighting women's transformative role in development and how it can be supported using SITE;
  • Highlighting the contributions of women to SITE;
  • Promoting the advancement and leadership of women in SITE

In aligning to the goals and objectives of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and national gender in STI platforms/ organisation, GenderInSITE southern Africa has strategically planned its activities in 5 key areas:
